A Level Spanish (September 2025 Start)
Course Overview
Our A Level in Spanish has been developed to inspire all students who have an appreciation of the language, literature, film and culture of the Spanish-speaking world.
This motivating course of study will enable you to develop an advanced level of knowledge and understanding of the Spanish language, the culture of Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries, as well as practical and valuable language and transferable study skills. This A Level will help to prepare students for higher education and enhance their employability profile.
The aims and objectives of this qualification are to enable students to:
- enhance their linguistic skills.
- promote and develop their capacity for critical thinking.
- understand the language, culture and society of the country or countries where the language is spoken.
- develop control of the language to convey meaning, using spoken and written skills.
- develop their ability to interact effectively with users of the language in speech and in writing.
- engage critically with intellectually stimulating texts, films and other materials in the original language.
- develop knowledge about matters central to the society and culture, past and present, of the country or countries where the language is spoken.
Work Experience & Industry Placements
All our learners will undertake work experience during their time with us at Yeovil College. This critical element of the course provides learners with wider skills and supports their progression to their required destination.

Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in Spanish (9SP0)
After The Course
This qualification offers a suitable progression route to further study at university level. In addition, the study of one language at GCE can facilitate and help promote the learning of other languages. The qualification may also add to an individual's employability profile, particularly for UK organisations trading overseas as well as with international companies based in the UK and globally. Students can progress to a wide range of careers in areas such as journalism and media, education, science, medicine, the civil service, sales, marketing, retail and charities.
English And Maths
You will need to hold GCSE's in English and Maths at Grade 5 or equivalent to enrol on A levels.
How Will I Be Assessed
The Level 3 Advanced GCE in Spanish, consists of two externally-examined papers assessing listening, reading and writing and a speaking assessment. The speaking assessment is externally set and conducted by a teacher-examiner.
All assessments are marked by Pearson. Students must complete their speaking assessment in April/May and all other assessments in May/June in any single year.
