Course Overview

A Level Law provides you with knowledge and understanding of the English legal system and you will develop legal reasoning skills allowing you to apply the law to scenarios. You will also evaluate and analyse the law to construct legal arguments and provide reasoned conclusions.

After The Course

Law degree and post graduate qualifications to qualify as a solicitor or barrister. Degree in another subject. Apprenticeship such as the paralegal or solicitor apprenticeship.

What Will I Learn

The English legal system which includes; civil and criminal courts and legal personnel. Law making which includes; Parliamentary law making, delegated legislation, EU law. Criminal law which includes; offences against the person (murder and manslaughter), non-fatal offences against the person (GBH, ABH, assault and battery), offences against property (theft, robbery and burglary) and defences. The Law of tort includes negligence, occupiers liability, nuisance and defences. Either contract law or human rights law and nature of law.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

Variety of delivery methods including classroom activities, professional discussions, digitally-enabled activity, presentations and directed study.

Tutorials

As a student, you will have weekly tutorials that are used for one to one support, progress updates, employability skills and preparation for University.

How Will I Be Assessed

You will be assessed by 3 exams at the end of the second year.

Entry Requirements

  • Five GCSE's at grade 4 or above.
  • Including English and Maths at grade 5 (or above).

Required Experience

No specific experience is required for this course but a keen interest in Law is essential.
