Sports Academy

Yeovil College has an outstanding reputation for supporting students sporting ambitions with a wide variety of options available to students, allowing every student to take part.

Past Yeovil College students have represented the college on the national stage in a variety of sports, with some signing professional contracts following their time spent at college. All students are supported with strength and conditioning support as well as expert sport specific coaching to prepare for competition in Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport fixtures and tournaments as well as other competitions and friendly fixtures against a range of colleges, sixth forms and other institutions.

Both male and female students are invited to join in on our excellent Badminton program, as coached by a Level 3 Badminton England accredited coach. Sessions take place on Wednesday 1.00-2.00pm (Turn up and play open session), Friday 9.00-10.00am (Academy only session) and Friday 4.30-6pm (Yeovil College Badminton Club open high quality badminton players, including ex-students)

If selected students will have the opportunity to compete in a regional tournament, leading to AoC Sport Nationals if successful.
Both male and female students are invited to attend Basketball training between 4.30-6pm on Tuesday in the sports hall (September-April). All sessions are coached by a Level 2 Basketball England qualified coach. Students will have the opportunity to participate in competitions and fixtures on Wednesday afternoon.

Recent success has seen Yeovil College student Christian Alexander receive scholarship offers for NAIA Colleges in America!
Students are invited to apply for the Elite Player Development Programme in conjunction with Yeovil Town FC to play on this program. This program offers a bespoke opportunity for players to train at a professional Football club alongside a tailored BTEC Sport course at Yeovil College.

Students on this program complete in the AoC Sport England Colleges FA league. The EPDP program finished 1st in AoC Sport Category 2 (South West, South) league in the 2017/18 season.

Recent success of the EPDP has seen players offered scholarships at various colleges in America! Yeovil College Male Football squads compete in AoC Sport (Category 3, South West) as well as playing a series of friendly fixtures against local colleges and sixth forms, regularly fielding multiple teams in weekly competitive games. Coached by UEFA B and FA Level 2 coaches

Training is held at Westfield Academy 4G on Mondays 3.15-4.30pm (Transport provided), with fixtures on a Wednesday afternoon.

Recent Footballing success has seen former England Colleges FA representative and Yeovil College student Jordan Storey break into the first team at Exeter City Football Club
Yeovil College Female Football is set to compete against a variety of local colleges and sixth forms in flexible format fixture as part of the AoC Sport (Category 3, South West) league. Coached by FA Level 2 coaches

Sessions are open to all students wishing to get involved, with training held at Westfield Academy 4G 3.15-4.30pm on Mondays (Transport provided). Fixtures will be played on Wednesday afternoons
Futsal takes place on Wednesdays 12.00-1.00pm in the Sports Centre, all players are welcome to attend. There is an opportunity to play competitive fixtures as part of the AoC Sport Futsal competitions.

Yeovil College is pleased to work in conjunction with Yeovil Golf Club to offer students the opportunity to play golf during enrichment sessions. Students will have the chance to play golf on both a Monday afternoon from 3.15pm and on a Wednesday afternoon from 1pm.

Students also have the opportunity to enter AoC Sport regional (South West) golf competition, leading to national competition if successful. If selected students are also put forward for AoC Sport Golf Open Championship that in 2018 was played in St. Andrews, Scotland. We are proud to have two students competing in this competition for the first time in 2018.
Yeovil College are pleased to have re-entered AoC Sport (South West) Female and Mixed Hockey leagues for the 2018/19 academy year. Training is due to take place on a Monday afternoon 3.15-4.30pm at Mudford Rec Artificial Grass Pitch, all players welcome new and old. Hockey sticks can be provided if required.

Students also have the opportunity to attend AoC Sport England Colleges trials on a yearly basis if selected by coaches.
Coached by a Level 3 England Netball coach, Yeovil College Netball competes in AoC Sport Category 2 (South West). Students are invited to train on a Monday afternoon 3.15-4.30pm in the sports centre, and if selected compete in fixtures on Wednesday afternoons.

Sessions are open to all players regardless of ability level
Coached by Level 3 RFU qualified coaches, Yeovil College Rugby upholds a fine tradition of excellence. Past successes include Jake Woolmore signing a professional contract with Bristol Rugby in 2018, having previously had contracts with Exeter Chiefs and Jersey Reds RFC. Former Yeovil College Student Marlie Packer won the Rugby World Cup in 2014 with England Ladies.

Training takes place at Yeovil College on Monday 3.15-4.30pm and Friday 9-10am, with fixtures played on Wednesday afternoons on a high quality pitch at Martock RFC. Players are expected to bring Boots, Water and a Gum shield. Male Rugby compete in AoC Sport Category 2 (South West) fixtures as well as a variety of other games against other local institutions
Girls Rugby training takes place on Monday afternoon 3.15-4.30pm, we are pleased to have entered AoC Sport (South West) Female Rugby Flexible Format league for the 2018/19 season with fixtures due to take place on Wednesday afternoons.

All players are invited to attend, regardless of ability or previous playing experience.
New for 2018/19 we will be offering the opportunity for students to take part in Squash at Yeovil College. Sessions take place on Monday 3.30-4.30 at LED Westlands Leisure Centre, using recently refurbished courts (Transport provided).

If selected players can compete in AoC Sport (South West) regional tournament, if successful this could lead to national competition.

All players are invited to participate, regardless of previous experience or ability. Sessions open to both male and females, equipment provided.
We are pleased to offer excellent strength and conditioning training opportunities to all students involved in Yeovil College sport teams and clubs. Sessions take place on Monday 4.30-6pm as well as Thursday 4.00-5.00pm.

Strength and conditioning training plays a vital role in developing our students sporting ability and all participants are actively encouraged to attend a minimum of one session per week.
We offer a comprehensive program of summer sport activities throughout the summer term, timetables are released just before the Easter break. Although activities such as; Rounders, Tennis, Cricket, Athletics, Flag American Football, Volleyball are on offer for students to participate in sport on a year round basis.
