The Transition to Work and Work Skills programmes are for young people who need to develop their social, basic and life skills before progressing on to work, a Level 2 course or an apprenticeship.
The course will include:
- Full assessment of your individual needs
- Personalised programme based on those needs
- Development of foundation skills (English, Maths and ICT)
- Personal, social and life skills
- Vocational training
- Individual learning plans
- Opportunities to sample a range of vocational options
- Learning through practical activities
- Direct provision of support services to address personal issues
- Progression to other programmes/courses
The course focuses on improving your basic skills to Level 1 or Level 2 standard, but covers a range of skills according to individual need. These may include:
- Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT (development and application of literacy, numeracy and ICT)
- Personal and Social Development
- Employability Skills
You will also have the opportunity to participate in a range of enrichment activities and access appropriate vocational modules from the broad College curriculum. These currently include:
You will be able to access an appropriate vocational programme from across the broad college curriculum. These will include:
- Introduction to Care
- Catering/Kitchen Portering
- Retail
- Construction
- Performing/Creative Industries
- Horticulture
- Hair
You will work at your own pace and be at College for up to three days a week. This means you may be able to fit part-time work around your studies too.
Progression
If you successfully complete this programme, you should gain a nationally recognised, Level 1 qualification. Students who achieve Level 1 or above through this programme can progress to other Level 1 or Level 2 courses, such as Foundation/Higher Diplomas or BTEC Vocational courses.
