What Transport help is available if I wish to attend Yeovil College?

You can apply to Somerset County Council for transport support in the form of an annual County Ticket student bus pass Applications forms are available from:-

Is there a limit to the distance I can travel?

The ticket is valid on all journeys that start and/or terminate within the administrative borders of Somerset and on cross border routes to and from Dorset, Devon or Wiltshire.

The ticket is valid on all public service routes operated by:
First, Bakers, Berkeley Travel, Berry's Coaches (not inclouding Berry's Superfast services), Libra Travel, Stagecoach Cook's Coaches, Damory, Door 2 Dorset, Frome Minibuses Ltd, Nippy Bus, Ridlers Ltd, South West Coaches, Stagecoach, Sureline and Webberbus, as well as Taxibus and Slinky services. Am I eligible to get a ‘County Ticket'?

As long as you are attending a Learning and Skills Council (LSC) funded 16+ College of Further Education course or attending college as part of a work based learning course, then you will be entitled to apply for a ‘County Ticket'.

What if I am unable to use public transport due to a disability, special need or medical problem?

You may still get assistance on an individual basis and should contact the Learner Finance & Welfare Co-ordinator for further details on 01935 845452.

Will I be able to claim a petrol allowance?

No, petrol allowances are being phased out and will only be available for students who live more than 3 miles from a bus stop. The allowance will only pay for your journey to your closest bus stop.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the ticket is set each year by Somerset County Council. The current price for 2009/2010 is £500 per year with a £40 discount for certain payment options. The price for 2010/11 will be set during the current academic year.
