Hospitality
CIEH/RSPH Basic Food Hygiene
A one day course at Level 1. This course provides the basic food hygiene qualification for anybody who handles food, either in restaurants, shops, canteens or food manufacturing companies.
CIEH Intermediate Food Hygiene
A three day course at Level 2. Suitable for supervisors and managers and provides a greater understanding of hazards and control measures for the food industries.
NVQs in Food & Drink
Flexible delivery/day release. We offer a range of training solutions following the NVQ route up to Level 3. You can choose from qualifications for bar, reception, housekeeping and food service, or the day release programme for food preparation and cooking. You will be allocated a personal assessor who will guide you through your award.Hairdressing / Beauty
NVQs in Hairdressing/Beauty
Daytime/Evening
We offer NVQs from Level 2 (suitable for people wishing to start a career
in hairdressing or beauty) through to Level 3 (suitable for beauticians and
stylists wishing to advance their careers). The programmes develop
technical skills in all practical areas to ensure occupational competence.
Care & Childcare
NVQs in Health & Social Care, Leadership & Management for Care Services,
Early Years Care & Education, Teaching Assistants
Daytime/Flexible Delivery
We offer NVQs in the above disciplines at Levels 2 - 4,
dependent upon job role and experience. Delivery modes include
underpinning knowledge workshops,
1 - 1 tutoring and assessment within the workplace.

Teaching Assistants, Health & Social Care
What is the course about?
This important vocational course deals with the practice and theory requirements of those
working with children under the age of eight* and the developmental and
educational needs of those in their care.
Who is the course for?
It is ideal for those working with young children who want to learn more about
childcare and enhance their career prospects.
What will I study?
You will study: How Children Learn, Personal, Social, Emotional Development,
Growth & Development, Personal & Educational Development, Observation &
Assessment, Child Protection, Managing Groups of Children, Working with Parents to
Enhance Children’s Learning, Personal & Professional Development.
With options to study: Working with
Children 0 – 3, Supporting Children in the Foundation Stage of Learning, Supporting
the Development of the Curriculum in KeyStage One.
You will also complete your own specialised research unit.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught by lecture and seminar, which will involve some group work.
Research and reading around topics outside of scheduled classes will further develop your
knowledge and will be essential to your success on the programme. You will be
expected to spend time on research and assignment preparation and group work
activities that you are asked to complete. It is expected that you will already have basic
computer skills or will be prepared to acquire
them. You will attend sessions one evening a week,with some additional full day workshops.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through assignments issued throughout the course. These may
include individual problem solving or group work and presentations. Your assignments
will be based around your own experience in practice.
Where could this course lead?
This course is recognised by the DFES SureStart scheme as preparation for Senior
Practitioner level in Childcare. It would also form the basis for further study in the final
stage of an honours degree and could lead towards a teaching qualification.
