The Yeovil College Property Strategy
Creating inspirational learning opportunities in Yeovil
Yeovil College places learning and learners as our top priority. Each year the needs of our learners change as do the type/s of courses and programmes that we offer.
It is growing ever more important that the College can give current and future learners the right skills and knowledge that our employers need and want. Extending and improving the skills of young people today can help to guarantee the success of the UK tommorrow.
As such, the College needs to constantly monitor and update the resources and facilities that our learners use. In November 2007, we launched our new Leonardo building - a £5.7m investment to replace one of the oldest buildings on campus to meet the growing needs of our learners. The Leonardo building now boasts some of the best equipment and facilities on campus giving students a truly unique learning environment.
Exciting Times!
In January 2008 we launched our new property strategy to look at the standard of buildings and facilities available to learners now and to consider what new equipment and resources would be necessary over the next 10 years. This presents the College with the very real exciting prospect of creating the best learning facilities whilst incorporating our sustainable approach to environment.
Working closely with our stakeholders we asked property experts GVA Grimley to look at our campus and come up with suggestions to ensure our College will meet the needs of the community. Whilst in the very early stages of our strategy the College is considering a number of options including the re-development of the whole campus to ensure the College can meet the needs of all our learners and the community’s environment, for years to come.
The College and the Sports Zone
Last summer, South Somerset District Council revealed plans to replace the current mudford recreation area with a proposed 20m Sports zone project, to create ‘one of the finest sporting facilities in the region’. Situated next to the college campus on Mudford road, the college would obviously be affected by such a large project and the sporting opportunities that this may present to students.
We will explore these obvious synergies as part of developing the feasibility of our property strategy. However, our main priority is to focus on rebuilding the accommodation on our present campus.
Strategy updates
The college views all our stakeholders both locally and further afield, with great importance and will publish updates, plans and news as our accommodation strategy moves forward. Visit this section of the website to keep up to speed with our latest updates.
