Gifted and Talented Opportunities
Outstanding Results
Did you know that Yeovil College students have achieved consistently high results in recent years? In 2011, students on full-time A Level programmes achieved an overall pass rate of 99%, well above the national average and one of the top scores in the area. 74% of students gained A-C grades. For more details, see our Full-time Results leaflet.
Stretch and Challenge
If you have been identified as a Gifted and Talented student by your school or college, we aim to extend your area of expertise and excellence through challenge, individual support and monitoring. You will work with your personal tutor to set challenging targets for yourself. Lecturers will provide support to ensure you have sufficient stretch and challenge and the Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator will monitor your progress.
University Opportunities
Many of our students have successfully gained places at universities across the country, including Oxford, Cambridge, Cardiff, Bristol, Southampton, Sheffield, Warwick, University College London and other Russell Group universities. You will be given lots of support and advice as you make your university choices and as complete your UCAS application. Your personal tutor and the College’s HE consultant, as well as subject specialists, will be available to help you with your application and personal statement. You will have the opportunity to visit universities during open days, including Oxford and Cambridge, take part in university information sessions at College during the year and the Higher Education Day in the summer term.
You will be encouraged to visit universities, apply for Sutton Trust Summer Schools, take part in South West Excellence Hub activities and participate in subject-specific courses, such as Medlink (for potential medical students) and other university-run taster courses. You will be given plenty of support and practice interviews if you choose to apply to Oxford or Cambridge. If your chosen course has an aptitude test (such as the LNAT for Law), you will be given lots of guidance and practice opportunities.
