Although we recognise the importance of your academic course of study, at Yeovil College we also realise that you have a range of leisure interests that you may wish to follow.
We have an excellent reputation for the quality and breadth of our Performing Arts and Sport provisions.
The college has good sports facilities and our Fitness Centre is open to all students at the cost of £30 annual membership.

Clubs and Activities

Sports Clubs and Activities

The College offers a wide range of sport and recreational opportunities.  A number of College teams have achieved success in British Colleges' competitions and individuals have received representative honours at regional and national level.  There are also opportunities to develop officiating, coaching and leadership skills.  Provision for recreational sports encompasses a wide range of activities, including Athletics, Golf, Swimming, Cross Country, Hip Hop Dance, Pilates, Tennis, Badminton, Fencing, Hockey, Rounders, Trampolining, Basketball, Fitness, Judo, Volleyball, Cricket, Netball, Football, Rugby and Table Tennis. Many of these events are on Wednesday afternoons but several take place after college.

If you are an outstanding performer in any sport we can provide you with support to further your progression including fitness and conditioning programmes as well as advice on nutrition and sports psychology. In sport we operate specialist Sports Academies with high quality coaching and progression through to high quality clubs.

Performing Arts

Performing Arts

Whether you are interested in performing, administration or providing back-stage technical support, you may want to be part of one of the College's productions!  The College also has a range of musical events and groups, including the popular 5 Feat Dance Company and New Rhythms, our integrated dance group.  Our students have performed at the Spring Forward Regional Youth Dance Platform at the Tacchi Morris Arts Centre, Somerset Youth Volunteering Network's V:Live events and the Yeovil Arts Festival, as well as College events.

Annual Production

Annual College Production

Talented students from across the College perform in the annual Yeovil College production, as well as helping to design and build the set, produce the costumes and help with the administrative work involved with planning the production.  Previous shows have taken place at the Octagon Theatre, Yeovil, and the College's own Main Hall.  Recent productions have included 'Night and Day' and 'A Chorus Line'. 

Duke of Edinburgh

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme 

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is for young people between 14 and 25 years and gives you opportunities for personal achievement, community involvement, adventure and fun, whilst developing a range of personal and social skills. It is actively sought by employers, colleges, universities and the Armed Forces.  Some of the benefits to young people include developing self-confidence and self-reliance, gaining a sense of achievement and responsibility, discovering new interests and talents and developing leadership skills and abilities.  We offer all three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold.  

YCMTV

YCMTV 

YCMTV is Yeovil College's student run TV station.  It broadcasts weekly through the College's intranet system.  Any student can get involved, regardless of course or subject, and it is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to get Media experience. Email ycmtv@yeovil.ac.uk for more information.

Expertise in a foreign language can open all types of career, HE and leisure opportunities. French, Spanish, German and Italian are currently on offer at a variety of levels.

Performing Arts

Creative Writing Club

If you have enjoyed imaginary writing at school or producing your own stories or poems, the Creative Writing Club will allow you to carry on.  This activity will give you the opportunity to practice a variety of forms and styles.  You will be encouraged to improve your writing through a range of exercises and workshops in a supportive, creative atmosphere.  This can also help if you are studying A Level English Literature or A Level English Language.

Debating Club

Debating Club

Learning to formulate and debate ideas is an excellent skill in preparation for HIgher Education and many careers, such as Law, where confidence in speaking and presenting ideas are vital.  The skills you develop can also help with developing arguements in your assignments. 

Community Volunteering

Community Volunteering

If you would like a career in teaching, working with young people or in social care, then most universities and training courses expect you to have done some voluntary work in the sector.  This enrichment activity can help you with finding an appropriate placement and getting the necessary checks.  It is also possible to continue with a placement you have already arranged.
