Composite Short Courses
Following research of local companies, Yeovil College is pleased to offer a series of short courses for Technicians, Maintenance, Design and Project Engineers who need an improved understanding of composite materials theory and practice. These courses provide specific training within Composite Materials Technology using a hands-on, practical approach incorporating all health, safety and quality issues associated with composite materials.

Lean and Business Improvement Techniques
There are no formal entrance qualifications required for these modules.
One Day Courses
An Introduction to Lean - focussing on the main elements of Lean, aimed at Managers and Decision Makers. Also highlights the benefits of the Lean Foundation and Business Improvement Techniques programmes.
Lean Basics - aimed at employees who are likely to champion Lean implementation in their workplace.
An Introduction to ISO 9001 - aimed at the newly appointed Quality Engineer and other employees.
Creating Process Based Quality Systems - aimed at Quality Engineers and managers.
Quality System Auditing - aimed at Quality Engineers and anyone who gets involved in system audits.
12 Month Refresher - for companies who have completed the B-IT programme.
Two or Three Day Courses
Lean Experience - two or three days of Lean training followed by a fully facilitated two or three day project. Suitable for employers who want the full experience of a `live' project in the workplace.

Day release courses over two years
This specialised area of engineering can be studied at National Certificate and HNC levels.
Business Improvement Techniques
NVQ modular courses with flexible start dates
This NVQ course covers the implementation of Lean Manufacturing
techniques within a company. There are various different modules available,
following either a Quality or Process pathway.
CAD
Half a day a week for six (Essentials) or 10 (Advanced) weeks
Computer assisted design using Solidworks, AutoDesk Inventor or AutoCAD.
Communication of Technical Information
Day Release courses over one or two terms
These two courses are ideal for Engineers who have to handle and
communicate technical information. Course content includes technical reports,
designs, and specifications.
Composites Courses
One day short courses
Introduction to Composites Materials and Processes, including Resin Infusion,
Resin Transfer Moulding, Prepregs and Autoclave Curing and Structural assessment.
Electronic Engineering
Day release courses over two years
Part-time study for Electronic Engineering is available from Level 2 Servicing
through to HND/Foundation degrees in Electronics.
Electrical Installation
Day release courses for work-based Electricians
Various courses for new trainees and technical updating are available.
This includes Technical Certificates to support NVQs as well as
Inspection and Testing and I6th Edition Wiring Regulations.
Machining/CNC
Day Release courses over one year
Various courses available from basic manual machining though
to advanced CNC programming.
Manufacturing Engineering
Day release courses over one or two years
Part-time study for Manufacturing Engineering is available from
National Certificate right through to HND/Foundation degree courses.
Mechanical Engineering
Day release courses over ome or two years
Part-time study for Mechanical Engineering is available from First Diploma level,
right through to HND/Foundation degree courses.
Plumbing Day
Release courses for work-based Plumbing trainees Apprenticeship/NVQ based
courses with Technical Certificates.
Process Control Courses
One day short courses
Introduction to Process Control, PLCs, Hydraulics & Pneumatics,
Single Loop Controllers and Industrial Communications.
Welding
Evening and Day Release courses
Various courses that cover basic welding; Arc and gas shielded welding
are also available.
Wood Occupations
Day release courses for work-based Carpenters Apprenticeship/NVQ
based courses with Technical Certificates.
Quality Assurance
Evening courses
Introduction to Quality Assurance and Diploma in Quality Assurance Modules available.
