Title and Level: Foundation degree in Education Support (Teaching Assistants)
Introduction
This is a three-year, part-time course designed for adults working in schools to support teaching and learning. You will already be involved in an educational environment in either a paid or voluntary capacity. You will find that this course will enhance the quality of your work within the school.
Entry Requirements
You must be working at least one day per week in a school as a teaching assistant, either in a paid or voluntary capacity (1 year minimum), and have a current CRB enhanced disclosure. You should have a GCSE in English/Maths Grade C or Level 2 National Test/Key Skills, or be working towards these. A letter of support from your employer or evidence of achievement is also required.
Duration
Mondays 5:00pm - 9:00pm - 10 weeks per term.
Careers prospects/Progression
This course is recognised by the DCFS. It will enable you to apply for the HLTA status at a strategic point and will give you the basis for further study in the final stage of an Honours degree at level H.
How will I be assessed
You will be assessed through assignments, individual portfolios of evidence, project work and termly presentations at the end of each unit. This will involve various forms of writing, including reflective writing linking theory to practice, analytical writing, lesson plans and case studies. Your assignments will be based around your own experience in practice. There are no examinations on this course but you are required to work to deadlines for submission of assignments.

- Personal and educational development
- Work-based practice
- Literacy or numeracy or personal study
Level I
- A personal development portfolio
- A personal study of own choice
- A two part research project
- A psychological issues
- A curriculum study unit
