Course Overview

The preparation for Adulthood is an exciting new programme designed for people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties who want to develop their living , personal and communication skills. This three year course will help you develop your skills and understanding to enable you to live more independently and access the community with peers on this course and peers on courses within the department. Maths and English are delivered through a variety of activities with much of the focus is on developing communications skills for adult life.

Work Experience & Industry Placements

Students are supported to carryout work related tasks initially within the college and then out in the community.

After The Course

Progression from the course is onto supported living, work activities in your community and being confident to make your own choices as independently as possible.

What Will I Learn

The study programme is separated into project themes including Communication, Maths , English, Community Action, Art, Healthy Living and Employability.

English And Maths

English and Maths delivery is imbedded in the programme and we will assess your skills and plan how to best develop them based on your own personal needs.

Our Lecturers

You will be taught by a highly qualified team who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in life skills – we hope you will use their experience, passion to help become as intra-dependent as possible

Teaching Learning and Assessment

This course has a different approach to it – you don’t study a unit at a time – you work on a mixture of units over the course of the 3 years. You will be showcasing your work with a portfolio which you will be able to take to your next placement.

This study programme is assessed through the compilation of assignments that you will be supported to produce over the three years.

Required Experience

We encourage applications from students with Profound and Multiple learning difficulties, without qualifications but with a passion and drive to develop their independence skills further.
