Title and Level: Certificate in Coaching Rugby Level 1
Introduction
This Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Rugby is awarded by 1st 4 Sport, a qualification developed in partnership with the Rugby Football Union (RFU). It is for adults (over 18) who are looking for an introduction to working with grass roots/junior rugby teams or parents of children in junior teams who want to get more involved. Learners studying further or higher education sport-related qualifications might also wish to pursue this vocational qualification.
The Rugby First qualification must be achieved prior to enrolling on this course. It is designed to provide you with an introduction to the practical and theoretical aspects of coaching rugby union. You will be informed how to develop as a safe, ethical and effective coach. Successful completion of this qualification will enable you to assist other more qualified coaches to deliver sessions to players of all ages.
Suitable for learners on sports related courses, players, parents of children playing rugby union, sports centre staff, teachers, youth workers, volunteers, anyone involved in sport or wishing to add experience to coaching portfolio. This is a two day course (13th and 14th February). Candidates must have valid Safeguarding and First Aid Certificates.

Career prospects/Progression
Can lead to a Level 2 Rugby coaching award which requires you to have worked with a team for a minimum period of six months.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed leading and practical sessions which must provide evidence of competence, safe practice and knowledge of the game.
Course content/units
This course comprises of three units:
- Unit 1 Introduction to Safe and Ethical Rugby
- Unit 2 Planning Ruby Union Coaching Sessions
- Unit 3 Delivering Rugby Union Coaching Sessions
Course expenses
Course fees: £236.52
There is an additional charge of £12.50 payable after enrolment if candidates are required to complete a Safeguarding Children Workshop and £1 for First Aid Certificate registration if needed.
