Title & Level: BTEC Diploma (Level 2) Sport

Introduction
This industry-recognised qualification aims to provide you with the underpinning knowledge required within the industry.  The national occupational standards have been integrated into this course to ensure you are well prepared for employment.  During the course, you will learn about Fitness Testing and Training and Practical Sports, as well as the Effects of Exercise on the Body Systems, Development of Personal Fitness and Psychology of Sports Performance.  Alongside this qualification, you may have the opportunity to take the Sports Leadership Award and Sport and Leisure Award.

Entry requirements
You need at least two GCSEs at grade C or above alongside D and E grades in a range of subjects.

Duration
This is a one year, full-time course.  

Career Prospects/Progression
Successful students can progress onto a Level 3 course in Sport, such as the Diploma or Extended Diploma or seek employment within the Sport and Leisure Industry.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through a range of assessment methods, predominantly practical assessment and written assignments.

Course expenses
Sports kit – Approximately £105.  There may also be fees associated with gym membership and sports enrichment activities.  Community Sports Leadership Award Booklet – Approximately £27.  Students are encouraged to take National Governing Body Awards alongside their course to increase their job prospects.  These will be advertised and costs notified within Yeovil College.

Work Experience
You will complete a two week placement related to your area of interest.  Past students have completed their placement at Yeovilton, primary or secondary schools, Yeovil Town Football Club, Goldenstones, Yeovil Hospital and various sports coaching companies.

Trips/Residentials
Opportunities include visits to Wimbledon, Twickenham and Yeovil Town Football Club, as well as a ski trip and a sports careers convention.
