Designed for Teaching Assistants, this Apprenticeship will give you the underpinning knowledge and practical experience of working in a school. You will learn key theory in areas such as communication, professional relationships, learning activities, behaviour, assessment and more. There are weekly, subject-specific workshops at College in term one, which then become monthly. If you have not got GCSE English, Maths or ICT at grade C or above, you will also attend weekly workshops to gain Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications. You will spend the rest of your time developing your skills in the workplace.
You must have GCSE English language at C grade or above and a relevant Level 2 qualification or previous experience of working in a school as class teacher or Teaching Assistant. You need to be working in a relevant workplace for the duration of the Apprenticeship and have completed a DBS check. This will be carried out by your workplace employer.
When you successfully complete this Apprenticeship, you can apply for Teaching Assistant roles in schools. With additional work experience, you may be able to progress to a Foundation degree, such as the FdA Educational Support available at the University Centre Yeovil. With higher level training, you may be able to progress to a full teaching qualification.
